Not bad, but not the best
Got the mulch kit when I bought my tractor July 2019. Used it for the remainder of the season. Did a pretty good job. Not the best mulching blades I've used but clearly good enough to get the job done. Plug gets some grass clippings caught in the openings but it's pretty easy to pull them out when you flush out the deck. sometimes clippings slip out and leave a trail. Just rerun over them again and they get mulched again.
Don't understand all the lost love in the reviews. It's a mulch kit. Puts the clippings back in the lawn. No bagging kit required. No heavy bags to dump. Not sure what they expect, but it works for me just fine.

Mulch builds up & causes cover to lift, bad design
Fitted by the dealer at time of purchase of brand new machine, as others have said the cover does not stay tightly closed so clippings fly out. Had a go at modifying it by putting a 1/4" bolt up through the flange of the deck, to prevent it moving outwards but after a while the cover has jumped up over my peg so got to have another go.
I shouldn't have to do this on an expensive machine, it would be better if it was made of metal, or the plastic cover had more fixings.
As this is an ongoing issue complained about by many, Cub Cadet obviously don't read these criticisms or do anything about it. Won't be buying another.

Blades are great but deck plate is not
I bought this mulching kit to cut down on the amount of bagging and try to be a bit more environmentally conscious but it has been, well not the best experience. The plastic cover fits poorly as several others have mentioned. The poor fit results in clumps of grass and a lot of dirt and grass on the mower. I used some duct tape to seal the gap and that worked for a short while to cut down on the dirt and dust but not the clumps. With long grass or leaves I just end up with lines of debris that I have to go back and rake.
Love the tractor, not the mulching kit!

Much kit
I bought my mower 3 years ago which I’m very happy with the purchase. I also bought the mulch blade kit. I’ve tried to make this function as it should no matter how I modifiy it. No matter what I do the grass pushed the door cover out releasing big clumps of grass that this option was supposed to prevent. It’s better than not having it and it’s far from perfect. I’ll keep trying to make it better and if I do I’ll update this review.

Mulching like new again!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Major surprise. Bought these as a package because it included a new shroud. Mine was about 10 years old and showed it. The blades that come with it are different than the ones I have been using. So, Viola! what a difference. I mulched up leaves four times this fall with this kit on the 42" mower deck. did a magnificent job. Mulched them up very small, almost to a dust. I always mulch (to nuetralize the PH of my clay soil). But in the past there was always a large size of the mulch. This time it worked really well. Everything fit perfectly. total install was less than 30 minutes, including the blades.

Very poorly designed
Very poorly designed. Its made of cheap plastic and only has two attachment points. No matter how much time you spend adjusting or repositioning the plug it will never be completely sealed and grass will always be blown out around the edge. In fact the only way that i can get it seal to the deck is by leaving the grass between the plug and the deck. Whoever designed this should be ashamed of themselves and needs and cub cadet should be equally ashamed of putting there name on it. Also the blades are very light weight and thin for the money. You can buy a good set of oregon blades that are twice as thick and much heavier duty for half the money. Its unfortunate that they would make a good tractor but then force you to buy this piece of garbage mulching plug. What's more frustrating is they can't be bothered to read the reviews on there own website about the problems. All the reviews have the same concerns. If you are reading this before you buy the tractor do your research and find another manufacturer that makes a quality tractor AND quality accessories

Great mower,terrible mulch plug/cover
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] On my third year, 42 in. LT1, 19 horse Koehler.Mower has performed well,very happy…mulch kit not so much. The cover simply does not seal,leaving clippings blowing out and all over your right leg…Especially frustrating when trying to mulch leaves. Using a half roll of duct tape to semi seal the opening should not be required.Please,Cub Cadet redesign and or give us a solution..By the way I am using Oregon gator mulch blades,excellent,very durable.

These blades do not work on a 2022 model
I ordered this kit when I order my new XT1. The mounting design has changed apparently on the 2022 model so this kit does not fit the new models mowers. The blades have a star pattern in the center and the new mower design is an s shape. I still used the plastic cap but it does have the same issues others have been saying about the fitment on the deck. I modified mine to fit better myself. I gave it 3 stars based on the cap for the deck. If the blades would have fit and cut well, then I would have done 4 stars and if the blades didn’t cut well, then 2 stars. I still have to find the correct mulching blades, but I am overall happy with my Cub Cadet XT1 Endurance.
