Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great blade, cover needs work. Blades are good, the cover doesn't stay completely closed and grass will come will come out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design for mulching kit The cover for the deck doesn’t seal so I end up with grass on me and the deck.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great blades, poor plug design The blades are great, but the mulch plug doesn’t fit the fabricated deck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, but fit on LT42E dec could be improved [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The mulching plug "works", but isn't great. It doesn't fit tightly, which means it essentially always has about a quarter inch of old dead grass stuffed around its seam keeping it "plugging" the hole. Other mowers don't seem to have similar problems with mulching plugs that Cub Cadet does. The blades do a good job of mulching my lawn, including the leaves that are now falling. Leaves end up at about half-inch squares; grass is indiscernible. That said, it does, as other reviews have noted, inevitably shorten the battery life. I was able to get my full 1.5-acre hillside lawn mowed in one battery with the LT42E mower with just side discharge going. With the mulcher going instead I get about 65-75% of the way through it before needing to return to the shed for a battery top off of about an hour before completing the task. Not a big deal for me (I have other stuff I can do for an hour around the house), but may be a deal-breaker for others considering mulching with an electric mower. Still, it is an inevitable part of mulching grass (which takes more energy to chop it over and over again instead of just spitting it out), so not faulting the kit for that at all.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great mower, questionable mulch plug [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I read reviews on the mower both here and at other sites. I neglected to read reviews on the accessories and attachments. Good thing or else I wouldn't have bought them. The reviews here are not good and justifiably so. I bought a ZT1 42 FAB with both the double bagger and the Xtreme mulch kit (42"/46" decks). Mower seems awesome. Attachments are flimsy and cheaply made. Rather disappointing that a company like Cub Cadet wouldn't do a better job of designing and manufacturing better attachments and accessories for the mower. The blades seem fine. They have a slightly shorter cutting edge than the original blades which surprised me. They are basically the same as the originals with this slightly shorter cutting edge and a pair of notches cut out of the lift wings. I guess they wanted to reduce the amount of lift. Blades seem ok. It's the mulch plug that is pretty bad. It's thin cheap plastic. Other reviews suggests it will wear through. I duno how that will happen. But installation was difficult. First, the instructions are terrible. Printed on the cheapest paper possible. And the pictures are so small they are virtually useless. The plug doesn't fit my 42" fab mowing deck. This must be a once size tries to fit all. Fortunately, I was able to modify and manipulate it to make it work. I Drilled a new hole for the rear side mount. I have to beat the mounting rod with a large metal work hammer to bend it into a shape that would put the mulch plug into the correct position to actually plug most of the shoot. See the pictures for details. I had to straighten the rod, then bend it at an angle that would pull the plug up snug to the mowing deck. Of course, after pounding the mounting rod, much of the paint was smashed off, so I had to repaint it. The first two pics show the mulch plug mounting rod, beaten, straightened, and re-angled to position the plug correctly. The third pic shows the rear side of the plug where I drilled the hole for the bracket on the mowing deck. Again, this positions the plug in the right place to cover the shoot. I hope this helps others.
