Plug the holes
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The mower mulches great with this unit. However, as stated in many other reviews it blows clippings up and into your face. The issue is that once you remove the standard clipping chute, the two holes remain uncovered allowing clippings to shoot rihtgt up into your face. This can be corrected by placing some high strength duct tape over the holes left by removing the original chute. Although, it would be nice if Cub Cadet could produce some rubber plugs to fill these holes and provide them with the mulching kit. Even better, also send a set of the plugs to owners who have already purchased the mulching kit (Free of Charge).

Mulch Kit Only
Okay, I gave the mulch kit a 4 star since it works fine except for the cover which is too thin/flexible and deflects when mowing. This permits a build up of trapped grass clippings (in the space between the cover edge and the deck edge )which have to be pulled out by hand.

Mulch Kit
The mulching blades are sufficient. However the plastic piece to cover the outlet is insufficient. Grass blows out through the sides and around it because it does not approximate sufficiently to the deck. And therefore, the grass does not get recirculated to be cut into smaller pieces

Mulch cover
I have had may mower for 3rd mow season and the mulch kit has been worthless since day one. It is exactly the same problem I have read in the reviews. The 50 in deck has a different mulch cover than the 42 in which is plastic and doesn’t stay in place. My neighbor’s Toro has a 42 in deck with the same mulch cover as Cadet’s 50 and it seems to work well. Seems to me they could design something that would be a better fit. I know I could, but don’t work for cadet. Just need to make a metal mold and design a way to mount so it does not move when in use.

Good except for the mulch plug
I had high hopes for an easy install for this kit. For the most part, the deck came off with only a slight struggle, the 15/16 nuts came off after some serious muscle (and maybe a hammer), and the blades slid right into place. Much better and hopefully sharper than what I had on there. The mulch plug that's another story. No way was that designed for my mower. It should fit but I literally had to pull the plastic so it stretched in order to get it on. I just can't believe it took so much effort and it still doesn't sit properly on the mower. It will do and will look to replace it when I have to change the blades again (if it lasts).

Terrible, everything about this needs redesign.
This needs an entire redesign. I read reviews and didn’t believe…well BELIEVE.
Terrible…First, it does not fit the dispatch chute. I had to drill a hole through steel deck to make it fit. It did not cover the side-chute and left a 1/4 inch gap at bottom. Second, the blades came painted but dull and unsharpened. I had to put them on a lathe to sharpen them. Despite this, it does not mulch the grass! At all!! The grass just clumps up under deck. I tried going very slow, even tried going over same cut multiple times. Nothing worked!!!
If you want to spend three times longer cutting your lawn and leave clumps of grass everywhere to rake up, get this.

Poor design
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The deck plug/cover is of a very poor design. No matter how many times you tighten it down the plug will work it’s way loose and spit grass all over the yard. I was shocked at how poorly this was designed and the operational value is a complete failure. You have to remove the side discharge chute by removing the assembly bolt and install the mulching cover, which does very little to actually block the chute opening and mulch the clippings.

nice blades, okay plug
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] bought this skeptical of how well it would perform given mostly negative reviews on the plug piece. a metal piece would have probably have a little more "stoutness" to it but I don't think it's nearly as bad as what people say or maybe I just got lucky on my application. clippings still kind of blow all around the edge of the deck so while I'm not shooting clippings 6' off to the side I still get clippings blowing into the flower beds. that said blades work great I hardly get any kind of clumping even in in heavy cutting. curious how it'll perform in the fall with leaves but that's still a ways away
