Mulch kit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It literally doesn’t mulch. It just drops big clumps if grass all over the yard. I wasted my money. Don’t recommend

Poorly designed deck cover
I got the mulching kit primarily so that the grass wasn’t being sprayed out the side, however after using it just once I’m not very impressed. While it reduces the grass spraying out the side the grass gets clogged and forces the plastic cover on the mower deck up enough to slightly spray out the side. While having new blades on the mower is helpful the plastic cover for the mower deck is poorly designed. In order for this concept to work the cover would need to be made out of metal and bolted on. I may try to manufacture my own piece of metal but I wish I had done that rather than buy this cheap piece of plastic.

Why would a company sell such a bad product?
Add me to the list of highly disappointed customers. I am experiencing the same extremely low quality results many folks her have reported here on their mulch attachment/cover: Embarrassingly poor quality construction, spewing chunks and not allowing the lawn clippings to be mulched, on the verge of complete product failure. If you cannot design & manufacture what should be a simple and straightforward item, then why should we have faith in your abilities on the main product? Considering the vast number of 'Poor' reviews, this is definitely a stain on your reputation in general.
Unless you ask for where to send a refund check, please do *not* fire off your your "We're sorry to hear you haven't been satisfied with your Cub Cadet purchase...." canned response.

Do not buy for a 42" XT1.
This product is a disaster. I have confirmed that it is the right accessory for my mower (42" XT1). The blades are fine. But the plug wiggles loose and barely restricts the mulch from spraying out to your side. I am glad to see so many similar reviews, as it at least confirms that I am not doing anything wrong. I have tried to strap/bolt the plug down but honestly, it is more efficient to just remove the plug and let the blower do its thing. At least the mulch is spread a fair distance. The awful, dysfunctional plug ends up depositing huge piles of clippings behind my machine.
The mulching blades seem to do their job well.
This product needs re-engineering ASAP.

Good blades, bad cover
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The blades work well but the chute cover is awful. It doesn’t stay tight and grass just gets stuck in the chute. This really needed to be a apron loaded door that attaches into the top bolt holes like the regular chute.

Mulch Kit Is Garbage from
Do Not Buy This Mulch Kit
The reviews are all saying the same thing - the cover is junk and does not work. The product is useless.
I am honestly shocked that these are still being sold. Cub knows this product doesn't work.
Don't buy it!

Poor fit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I actually returned the entire mower and left the mulch kit installed. The mulch kit does not fit the deck correctly. I had to drill holes and zip tie it closed. That helped but it was still a poor fit.

Star vs S shaped ??
I put in my model on this website, listed these as compatible blades. Since this is the first time replacing blades, had no idea about different types of bolt patterns. Why not list a different part number? Bummer. So First - Look under your mower......then purchase blades.

Poor engineering but you can fix it yourself
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works fine if you make adjustments. The cap isn’t the best quality and it Will shoot grass out. Unless, drill some holes in bottom of cap and zip tie a round grass shoot opening. Then is works like it should have originally without the subpar engineering. For the price Cub Cadet should do better but they have been selling this item with all the negative feedback so I don’t assume they will make adjustments to it anytime soon if ever.

Not good for electric.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I put these on a Ultima ZT1 electric zero turn and they work well but your run time gets cut by more than half. I used to mow my entire 1 acre yard and finish up with 58% battery remaining. Now I can’t finish the yard on a single charge. I probably have about 5-10 minutes worth of mowing left when it gets to 5% and I need to recharge. It does produce a noticeably better cut and the mulching effect works well. If you have a smaller yard it may work perfectly fine for you but I will probably go back to the standard blades.

Not worth the money
Bought this mulch kit a few weeks ago for my new cub cadet mower… I’m completely disappointed with this kit, the mulch cover isn’t secure. Grass builds up behind it until it eventually allows grass to blow through the seams leaving chunks of grass along the side. Then today it gave way and allowed the grass to blow out through the bottom, almost like there was never even a cover… took it off and put the standard chute back on. I had a Craftsman mower with a mulching attachment for 16 years and I never had anything close to this happen… I wish I could return it.

Poor Product Quality
This is the 2nd Cub Cadet mower I have purchased both by adding the mulching kit afterwards. The first purchase 5 years ago was excellent, this purchase was however a waste of money. Grass collects & embeds between the added chute guard & bottom portion of the deck opening in large quantities requiring you to remove the guard to clean to the debris after each cut. Very poor design compared to the first purchase. Not sure what changed since the last but very disappointed in this purchase!!! I'm working a DIY fix so my entire purchase doesn't go to waste.

The only good things are the blades.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this as an accessory for a newly-purchased XT1-42 ZTR. Aside from the mulching capability, a major appeal to me is the ability to remove the clippings chute from the deck, to allow more precise maneuverability. The mulch plug included with the kit is plastic, with one metal tang on the front of plate to engage with the deck. The tang is attached is the plug with two bolts, however the mounting point on the plug does not align with the tang receiver on the deck. This means when installed according to the instructions, there is a 3/8" gap between the bottom of the plug and the lip of the deck chute. In about 15 seconds, this gap collects clippings, and then the plug flexes and pops out of position, and then it starts shooting clippings out..
I removed one of the bolts from the tang to allow the plug to better position over the hole in the deck, which helps some, but doesn't prevent the bottom of the plug from flexing and catching clippings. If the plug were slightly deeper and could lock into a receiver along the lower edge of the deck, it would be much better.
On the 42" plug, there is also a metal wire to hold the plug against the deck, but it only has one point of attachment (the top) and doesn't hold the plug rigid against the deck, so it does very little to resist blow-by and plug flexing. If the wire actually interfaced with lower edge of the plug, instead of resting on the surface of the rear edge of the plug. it would probably improve performance.
Quite frankly, the only things useful to me in this kit were the blades. Unless Cub Cadet has a better solution for my mower, I'm going to search for an aftermarket or custom solution to this issue.

Expected Better
I read the reviews before making the purchase and was hesitant, but what are the other options? Installed the blades and plug per the instructions. I agree with the others, grass blowing around, clumps left behind and grass clippings built up all around the plug. disappointing....

The discharge cover is trash
The platic cover has metal post which fits into the front part of the deck, and a flimsy plastic flap which snaps into the rear of the deck. The plastic cover does not seat well into the deck and does not stop clipping discharge from the deck.

Wrong blades provided
Filtered my product search to my mower (Ultima ZT1 42) and this was the only product. It arrived 10days later and today when I went to install found out the wrong blades were provided. My mower has Star-mount but S-mount provided. Tried to call and chose callback option but got no callback. I bought from this site assuming they would get product right. This is to be my first blade change, so didn't know what mount it used. In fact, had to remove the first blade to see the mount type.

Grass Clumps
I purchased the 42" mulching bladed a year and half ago and I would say they need some design improvements. The blades mulch okay in think lawns if you travel slow. If you travel an average speed in thick grass they rumble with wads of grass. They also leave a pile of grass when you stop and back up. I have to go over the grass clumped areas a second time to disperse the mulched grass piles. The plastic end shroud also doesn't fit snug and gets grass wedged into it. Sad to report that my older model Craftsman's push lawn mower does a much better job of mulching the same thick lawn grass areas than my 42" Cub Cadet does. I feel that the dual mulch blades need different top end angles/pitches to improve the grass mulching. They don't like thick grass lawns. I would say the mulch blades are fair in overall performance.

Missing strips of grass after mowing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The grass is being mulched but I am now finding strips of grass that are not being cut after mowing. It seems those strips are under the tire tracks from the front of the mower and the blades don’t have enough lift to pull them up. I have tried overlapping several inches but it is still a problem. Also, grass seems to collect around the cover and I have to remove it every time I mow to clean it out.

Works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This kit was easy to install and works just fine. Like other reviews have said, it does bunch up some clippings at the cover, however, I look at that as it is sealed once it's in there. Then I just pull the clippings out during my cleaning process before I put it away. Anyway, I mulched the leaves from my tree in the backyard this year and it worked out great!

Blades good, chute block ok
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Blades work great as designed. I use them with a bagger and with the mulching chute block and they perform well in both applications. The chute block does not do as well. It allows clippings to bypass and get trapped as other have noted. It is minor, but still gets clippings into the mulch beds which is annoying.
