Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2yrs...60+ hrs [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Research several and settled on this one. Second year on this and here we go. Blades......junk, plain and simple. Been a machinist better part of 2 decades, soft steel at best. Seat is great, but shock absorber ain't much to brag about, feel all the bumps. Deck has more grass on top after mowing than yard. Why so many holes, but it's well build and strong. Rear tires, not much count. Another china made fit-all. Great pull a hill. Had front tires bouncing going up, but down any slight grade, it'll run off and leave tracks. Switching to Ocelot tires. Hydro- gear motors....great. Easy to service and plenty of power. Just buy 2 overpriced filters and Castrol 20w-50. Kawasaki motor...another great one. Just blow out the air filter regularly and your rings will last a very long time. Manual deck lift and height adjustment, can't screw that up. Just a key, blade switch, throttle and chock, pretty simple, nothing to break. No fancy fenders to rip off either. Just a plain mower. Yelp......I'd buy it again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Three years [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this around three years...so far, no problems. The machine is fairly loud...in order to listen to music I need to use in ear headphones that are covered with a fairly deap set of over the ear ear protectors. I have fairly sandy soil, so the original blades barely lasted 10 hours. I bought a set of XHT USA HD blades and ( with a few sharpening) they've lasted about sixty hours. My yard (4 1/2 acres (2 acres of mowing) is fairly bumpy in areas. Keeping the rear tires a little soft helps some. Even with normal pressure, the ride is surprisingly decent. I really wish there was a fuel gage ( ran out of gas a couple of times). The agility of the machine makes it seem like I'm dancing with it (I can't Dance). Mowing with it is fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Evolving machine [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned the ZT2 54 for 7 months now and have 51 hours on it. I can mow my 3.5 acres in about 2 hours with quite a few trees. I do have a pretty good hill coming up from the lake and it does a good job treking it. I do have to sharpen the blade about every 10 hours or so but i have a second set and just swap them out and sharpen them later. Overall its a good design. I would make a few minor changes such as much brighter lights as you can faintly see about a foot or so in front of the machine with the stock lights. Needs an adjustable grass chute, over time the plastic chute sags down and clumps grass instead of spreading it a few feet. Rear tire size does not have many options for tread pattern, i could use a little more aggressive tread such as the reaper tire but i have only been able to find the stock tire or a full on super aggressive mud tire. Armrests need to be height adjustable, my arms never touch them. Gas gauge. Gas gauge. Gas gauge. It would be nice if Cub Cadet would have a string trimmer mount for this machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I expected [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like to get some use on an item before writing a review. After 15 hours on the Z2, i can say it is light years ahead of the RZ50 i traded in. (The RZ had 750 hours on it, and the dealer still gave me $1000 tradein, which I thought was very fair). The Z2 feels much more solid, and rides a lot smoother. The wider rubber is nice, helps the ride, and is easy on the lawn. Engine starts at the touch of the key. I read all available reviews prior to purchase, and feel compelled to comment where my experience has been different. The ride: unless you are comparing to a very high-end commercial machine with suspension (at twice the price), i dont think you are going to find a better ride. Headlights: one review was critical of the headlights. I havent tried to mow at midnight, but i can tell you they make a difference when you are fighting to get that last bit of yard finished at the end of the day. I am pleased with the lights. In one review it was stated that you could successfully take off mowing across a high field. Not true....you can cut higher grass, but it is a lawn mower, not a brush hog. My bottom line: i would the exact same purchase over again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Machine. But blades are a problem. I've had my ZT-2 54" for about a year. It is my first Z turn. I mow about 3 acres with it. Land has some hills and is rough in places. Generally quite happy with this mower until, at 50 hours, I looked underneath. The blades are in terrible shape. I may hit some pine cones and small sticks but that's it. The tips of each blade are shredded and torn. They are also the lightest and flimsiest mower blades I've ever seen. The blade on my cheap-o 12 year old push mower is much heavier and in much better shape even though I abuse it. So yes, great machine, terrible blades. But here's the kicker, the blades have an 's' shaped hole and there are only three choices from Cub Cadet and none from third party makers like Oregon. And on top of that the Cub Cadet blades are expensive AND right now they are in short supply. Bad situation all around.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Engine keeps surging or quitting. I bought a ZT2 54 last week. During my first time mowing with it, the engine either lost power or quit completely. If I let it sit for a minute or two, it would start back up and run smoothly for another 2 or 3 minutes and then lose power and quit again. Less than a week old with less than two hours on the meter and I’m already taking it in for work. The shop is telling me they’re running up to two weeks behind on repairs. Not happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ZT2 54 "Tank Mower" [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cut my mowing time from 3+ hours with my old rider to 1.5 hours and I enjoy every minute of it. This zero turn is literally a tank that cuts grass. I spent countless hours comparing different brands/mowers and after some video reviews online of this specific mower it checked all the boxes I required. It was worth every penny. This mower makes light work of 2 acres.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If it runs it’s great [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When this mower runs, it runs great. I put 2.8 hours on this mower before it stopped running. It has been in the shop for a week and I have not heard back. I really wanted to love this mower, but when you use it 3 times before it quits, it’s hard to love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Zero Turn [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Solid machine! Have about 10hrs of use on it, mowing just over an acre. Rides very smooth, and has a very clean cut even when mowing at fill speed. Appears that the machine will lay forever with the proper maintenance and care. Very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from #Club Cadet [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Beat mower I have ever owned. I was a little hesitant because of the bare bones look, but it actually helps with cleaning, noise and heat. My neighbors were so impressed that 3 of them went and bought themselves one within the last 2 weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great machine all around. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great machine. Drives well turns on a dime. The clippings come out so fine without the mulching blades. Solid build. Should last for years to come. 2.5 acres has never been so easy. I enjoy mowing now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Zero turn ZT2 54” [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have mowed about 6-7 times. So far so good, seems well designed and built ! I am happy with the speed of this machine, seems like the best cut comes with slowing down a little though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower - quality product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 1.5 acres of flat, some slope, and plenty of obstacles and this does a great job (54in deck). Quality parts, quality build, zero issues. Easy to service, haven't had one issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cu cadet zt2 54 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great mower with lots of power. Mows 5+ acres with no trouble. Love how the deck is slightly offset. Makes cutting under fences a breeze. Doesn't bog down in the taller grass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hydraulic fluid reservoirs are missing on ZT2 I just bought a new ZT2 54 inch and noticed that the newest model design is missing the two hydraulic reservoirs that were located on each side of the Kawasaki engine. Why the design change ? Still love the mower, though.
