Good for hilly terrain
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I shopped for weeks for a mower and ultimately chose this one because I have hilly terrain. It can handle everything except one slope in my yard. Generally speaking, if a slope is too steep for me to comfortably and safely walk, then it's too steep for this mower. This was the only zero-turn I could find rated for hills that's priced under $4,000.
I mow about two acres with well over 20 small to medium trees (including an apple orchard). It slides around a little bit when I mow around trees in the steep orchard, but it gets the job done about as well as any mower can - given the terrain.
Gas efficiency seems to be nearly a gallon per acre - so I'm purchasing gas more than I used to with my old riding tractor (but the old tractor only had a 16hp engine). With all the hills and obstacles in my yard, an acre takes over an hour to mow, so your mmv depending on your yard.
The Kawasaki engine is a plus. From what I've heard, they're more reliable than Kohler. The only downside is that the parts are less common and therefore more expensive. Be aware that the tune up kit from Cub Cadet comes with 10w-30 oil while the manufacturer recommends 10w-40 oil for use in environments 90 degrees and over - which is most of the southern US during the summer. Fortunately, oil changes are easy.
Overall, I'm very happy with this mower. It makes mowing fun. I can't comment on reliability since I've only had it for a month. As with any mower, if you keep up with maintenance - and keep the deck clean after mowing - it should last many years.
