Rated 5 out of 5 by dionaea from Powerful; precise trim with low-profile head [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a general-purpose heavier-duty trimmer, this Cub Cadet 4-Cycle Trimmer Model SS470 is working well for us on our rural acreage. A light-duty trimmer can handle basic low weeds and trimming around flower beds and the driveway, but a well-designed powerful trimmer like the SS470 is needed to handle the heavy brush, tall weeds, new blackberry bush “volunteers” and honeysuckle vines that keep attempting to reclaim territory you painstakingly cleared two or three weeks ago. The trimmer is exceptionally easy to assemble in a few minutes by following the booklet diagram and instructions. The low profile and 17-inch cutting width makes it easy to get under and around the bushes we do want to keep, like roses, hydrangeas and peonies, while the sturdy shield keeps blowback bits of twigs and debris away from our feet and legs. As always with any trimmer, I highly recommend you wear protective eye shields, footwear and clothing that covers your lower legs. One feature I especially like is that there is no more need to keep a special gas can or forgetting which gas can has the oil/gas mix. The oil goes in a separate tank on the trimmer, and you just add regular ethanol-free gas to the gas tank. It starts without a fuss or hassle. The included shoulder strap is a great asset as the trimmer weighs a hefty 13-1/2 lbs before adding fuel. The contour handle provides a secure grip as well. The one problem I have is storing it as it is topheavy, and I suggest to Cub Cadet that they add some type of harness so it can be carefully hung from wall hooks when not in use or offer the consumer after-market wall-storage hooks specially designed for this and their other similar trimmers.

He originally had used an electric weed eater, but he enjoyed using this gas weed eater. It came with concentrated gasoline and line. You can use regular gasoline with it as well. He liked the ease of use because it came with a strap to wear and it was lightweight. It cut through the weeds quickly and diminished his weed eating time by half.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Darlene67 from Best Trimmer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We needed a new trimmer and the Cub Cadet is Amazing , it was so simple to put together,it's sturdy and well made as a woman who helped in the yard I love that it's not super heavy and it's the easiest starting trimmer we have had in years,the bump head is great and it cuts through the heavy weed in our back field as easy as the light weeds in our yard, just please remember you need to let it warm up a few minutes before you get started. Cub Cadet is a quality brand we trust to last for years.

After using it a few times it wouldn’t run right and had to run it on half choke. After using it a few more times it was difficult to even start and when it started it wouldn’t hardly stay running. I love my cub cadet lawn mower, but unfortunately I can’t say the same for the cub cadet trimmer. I went and bought a Stihl after one year of use with this cub cadet trimmer. Very disappointed with the trimmer.

Needless to say, trimming and edging is a pain. This trimmer has made the job a lot easier. It is powerful, easy to start and operate. One of my favorite things about this trimmer is the length. Being over 6 ft. tall it saves constant bending over. Reaching under shrubs and my propane tank is much easier. I highly recommend this trimmer, especially for large yards and areas to trim like mine. It is powerful and sturdy built.

I used it to trim my front and back yard and also used it to cut down allot of weeds that grow inbetween my shrubs. The different speeds are great so that you don't mess up your grass. It was easy to put together and easy to fill up with gas and oil. It was easy handling not heavy at all. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a good trimmer. I also like thst fact that you can purchase attachments for it so its very universal.

It edges very nicely and you could tell that it was built well. The sturdiness of it did make it a little heavy, but we also were using it for the entire yard so it could just be our lack of muscles. It was really nice to have everything that you needed to get going in the box (oil and gas). The gas fill is kind of at a weird angle so if you have it just laying down and try to fill it with gas then be careful not to spill. Overall, we could not be more pleased with this product. Prior to this we were using a 10 year old weedeater that would randomly die in the middle of the process, so this is a fantastic upgrade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Had Enough from Junk My Cub Cadet ss470 has been sitting in the shed for over 4 years with the original price tag still attached. I used it 3 or 4 times and the string kept jamming up, then the little metal rings came out of the head, Its been sitting ever since. I may have even threw out parts of the trimmer head. I bought a used Ryobi at a yard sale and have been using it ever since. I did buy a universal trimmer head for it but it would not fit so I returned the new head and parked the useless Cub at the back of the shed.

It offers different attachments, making this a viable option for multiple tasking. I like the 25 cc engine which makes it smooth and has enough power to edge around walkways. Being a 4 cycle engine, just adding gas is a plus, no need to mix oil. The bump head feeds well and is durable. I like that the straight shaft allows you to get into tight spaces and it is well balanced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by maryanne from Excellent product but not a good fit for husband [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband was so excited to receive this free sample of SS 470 25 cc PRO 4-cycle 17 cutting swath straight shaft to use and review but it was too long for him to be able to handle well close up while edging around flowerbeds and yard .. He is 5 ft 3 1/2 inches and he said it was just too long to be comfortable to do edging.or close cutting. Perfect for long grass and weeds in hard to reach places {perfect for larger yards or acreage .Or where you need the extra reach and just swipe side to side..The weight was good with the strap and the bump head was a good figure. He suggested a telescopic handle would be perfect for shorter statue persons. He also loved that the oil and gas came with the machine so you know you have the right type from the start. So convenient

The assembly instruction were easy to follow and it was pretty quick to put it together. The engine is a 4 stroke so it eliminates the need to mix the oil and fuel!. I've been trying for 2 days now to load the trimmer spool. Later today I'll see if my Stihl spools will fit on this unit. Engine runs awesome but the casing heats up and I burned my arm on it. It will likely be an awesome machine once I change the trimmer head.

Shuts off won’t go again until it cools down completely, on the third I gave up returning them and went to a cub cadet dealer and was told they are junk and they don’t sell nor service them wish I knew that before I lost the receipt
