Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great investment. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This unit cuts grass very well, even high grass doesn't bog it down. I use it year round thanks to the optional snow plow attachment, chains and weights. It pushes heavy wet snow with no problem as long as you use the chains and weights for traction. My brother liked it so much that he also bought one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My First Cub Cadet [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first Cub Cadet Tractor, after having had another brand for almost 25 years. I bought this to have something good for my retirement years. We bought this in September, and it did very well. The next spring, we found mice had gotten in the tractor over winter and chewed the wiring. The local Cub Cadet Repair Shop took care of warranty replacement of some wiring, and it ran well after that. The following spring, I had difficulty in starting the engine, and came to find out the choke plate was stuck in the open position. After 25 years of having push lawn mowers and garden tractors, this has never happened to me. I eventually got the plate freed up, put some "Mechanic in a Bottle" in the gas tank, and so far it starts first time and runs very well. I am very happy with the quality of cut, steering, and handling, it is just the problems with the choke that bothers me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower for the price. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second Cub Cadet 42" cut tractor that I have purchased. The tractors are great, hydrostatic transmissions are wonderful. I am impressed with the new LED headlights. The only complaint I have is that the deck is not constructed well enough. A welded deck should be offered for this width cut.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in the motor [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased my Cub Cadet with the 18hp Kohler Courage motor and two months after the warranty was up the motor was trash. The dealer I took it to said that is the first one he's seen where the casing cracked around the crankshaft. The mower had been a good mower but this left a bad taste in my mouth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use, fairly easy to maintain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this for a few years. I do the maintenance regularly and bought a jack to facilitate blade changes. However the air filter seal is a pain and it will leak gas. I need a new carb for the motor already and the battery did not last more than 2 years. I suspect an issue in the charging circuit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have to wait for a turn! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Second season with our mower, and between my son and wife, I hardly get a turn mowing our yard! My wife hadn't mowed our yard in 10+ years, and now she enjoys mowing. The mower has steering that feels like power steering and turns almost in its own tracks. Has been easy start and no problems at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has lasted! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought the older version of this in 2012... its still running strong. Have had to replace mower deck spindles, PTO cable, PTO lever, the tires all leak air now. Other than fixing these wear items, nothing other than maintenance has been required. Very nice and comfortable mower for the long haul.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well ... cutting hights seem low [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this for around a month and mowed my 1/2 acre lawn three times. I need to put the cutting hight at 4" to keep it from cutting too close. It is OK at that level so I'm not trying to figure iout why ... maybe the mowewr deck range can be adjusted ... I don't know. Otherwise woorks fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome ride and great features [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have have had my XT1 L42 for a month and it was the best choice I could have made! The ride is awesome, very comfortable. Love the cruise, safety features for reverse, features for cleaning under deck but most of all my lawn looks great! It does a beautiful quality cut. I am very pleased!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs Smooth, very dependable [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my Cub Cadet XT1 42" four summers ago and it still seems new to me. I have nearly 7 acres of hilly, bumpy grass and weeds that I mow every few weeks during the Summer. I use her with a small garden trailer to haul the trash and recycling up my 500' driveway to the street, sometimes pick up leaves in the Fall with the bagger attachment. Generally I crank her up at least once a week for one reason or another. She runs smooth and strong, never complains about pulling a reasonable load. My only complaint is that the battery (still the original) doesn't have much reserve in the cool weather, so I keep a Battery minder hooked up to keep her topped off. My wish list would include a bigger battery and a little suspension to tame the bumpy terrain of my terraced landscape. Overall I'm glad I finally got rid of Dad's 40 year old "turtle" brand and purchased this sweet yellow ride!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very reliable mower. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the mower for 4 years and am very pleased. I also bought the grass catcher and mulching attachments. The only negative is that with the mulching attachment, the cover for the deck outlet does not seal well and grass collects in back of it. Otherwise, everything has been fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy one I just bought mine brand new, first use of cutting 3/4 acre great, started to use it second time and blades stopped working and I can’t cut my grass. $4000 nearly to cut my grass once, you must be joking me. Absolute disgrace. I had a second hand Remington before and used it for over 4 years without issue. I feel let down with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy overall I love the price and all you get. The seat is way more comfortable than my John Deere. I love the hydro static transmission, very nice for a tractor in this price range. I looked over several other brands before deciding to go with the Cub Cadet. So far I am pleased. I also love that I can buy it local too, not just in the chain stores.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like it. Works well [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The problem I have is the transmission bypass Rod, it seems whether it's pushed in or out the mower Still seems to move, when I first bought the mower when it was pushed in the tractor would not move now it does so I might have to have that looked in on. That's why the 4 star rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lookin for my third cub still using my second cub and it's been a pleasure the first one is still being used as a utility tractor for moving trailers around. lookin to get a zero turn because i got over 30 tree's in my 2 ac. lot. and i really want to try the steering wheel zero turn, borrowed a two handle one from a freind and didn't like the way it handled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Rider for This Newbie [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this mower to replace a self-propelled by dad had been using...haven't used a rider in a LONG time. Great features--let's me know when it's time to change the oil, etc., easy to operate, and pretty darned comfortable ride on a bumpy 1 1/2 lot. Super pleased with this mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice tractor [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ive had this one for about 1.5 yrs. No issues. Starts easily and runs well. Seems to have plenty of power, but i have a cart for it and tried hauling landscape bricks and it wouldn’t make it up a hill i have. Maybe i had too many in there. No complaints, though. It’s a nice tractor

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love my new lawnmower [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love my new riding lawnmower. Does a very good job of mowing the grass and does not lose power one going up and down hills while mowing. The only minor complaint I have is the fact that their app hasn’t been updated in years and is very buggy for the Bluetooth connection feature

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Time Cub Cadet owner [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this mower in Feb. 2020 and got a great deal. This mower is different than any I had in the past and I find it easier to operate. No shifting! All the controls are easy to operate. I dont detect any vibrations with the blade engaged. I am pleased with the mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliability [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first lawn tractor and it has been very reliable. This is the 3rd year and absolutely no problems and I am one that is sort of rough on things. Change the air and oil filters and get the blades sharpened before every season and you'll have a tractor that lasts for many years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to get to start but mows great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's hard to get to start always acts like the battery is dead or about to die when it goes to turn over to start. I often have to jump it off even with the new battery...only a few weeks old. But when it's running it mows like a dream... Could not ask for a better mowing cut...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Runs smooth [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had it for about two months so far. No problems and it’s very quiet when you turn the throttle down when the blades are off. Seat pressure sensor barely recognizes my 80 lb daughter so that’s the only issue I’ve had. It has plenty of power for tall grass. My yard is mostly flat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] EXTREMELY HAPPY OVERALL WITH MOWER HOWEVER WHEN MOWER ABRUPTLY DIED THE SOLENOID THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED WAS HARD TO DIAGNOIS AND IT WAS HARD TO FIND A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP LEADING TO LOSE OF MOWER USE FOR A FEW WEEKS. OTHERWISE SUPERB PRODUCT. SOLENOID DIED AFTER ONLY TWO SEASONS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Mower This is my first riding mower and I love the solid construction and turning radius. I have a 3/4 acre corner lot and this is my only mower. I can get around trees and flower beds easily with the quick turning radius and only have to use my string trimmer minimally. I would recommend this mower to anyone in need of a lawn tractor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does what you expect from a mower [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this for a year and a half now and it runs and cuts great. The only thing that could be better is if the mulcher spread the clippings out more even instead of along the right side of the mower deck. Which then builds up on the right rear tire and falls off in clumps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Design [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had a 2007 42" Cub Cadet and when I couldn't fix it anymore, I did some research on the XT1 and I like that the blade control is not electronic anymore, the engine is re-designed and the way it handles is excellent. I've had this one for 2 years now and no major repairs!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower but [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had my Cub Cadet for almost 3 years. It’s been a great mower but the belt starting popping off. Replaced the belt, made sure all the pulleys were tight and in the right way lace but it still keeps popping off. Seems to be a reoccurring problem with the new deck design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaces a sears craftsman and does an excellent job. Went from a 54” to 42” deck but hardly noticed. Runs great. Cuts grass better. Bagger attachment is a little cheap made but works better than the craftsman bagger. Smooth operation. Love the EFI with no carburetor.
