Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cut I have a little over half an acre and the 42 inch cut is great on my lawn. I like the ability that it doesn't leave wheel marks or cut marks on my lawn. With my push mower you could see which direction I mowed. I also appreciate the looks I get from neighbors as they slow down to look at my lawn ! Cuts my mowing time down from when I was using the push mower only !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasure I am in my second year with my XT1 LT42 and am more impressed every time I use it. Speed. comfort, and great cut are my favorite parts. I mow my 1.25 acres of Bermuda grass twice each week and don't mind doing it at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, but......... mower runs great, tackles all jobs, but whenever I disengage blades, the belt comes off most of the time. I am getting tired of having to replace the belt constantly!!! Just over a year old, but I have already replaced 4 belts! Sounds like a design flaw to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XT1 Great Tractor Anyone looking to purchase a new Lawn Tractor this is the one to buy, with the twin Cam 18hp Kohler Engine she is ready to go, even when mowing on a slope mine doesn't bog down a bit, and this compared to my old Craftsman LT-1000 this mower beats it hands down, the controls are easy to use and I love the cut while backing up feature, the only thing's it could use is to have Cub Cadet use a seal on the headlamps mine are constantly getting water behind the lens , and they are not easy to remove to clean, also I would like to see a gauge for the charging system like my Craftsman had, other than that this is a great mower built to last, and well worth the investment, the Hydrostatic transmission is a breeze to use , and the mower only goes as fast as you press on the accelerator, like your car and it works like a brake when letting off of it, I would Highly recommend this mower for those who want reliability with cutting edge performance and Looks , also this mower does a great job at lifting the grass while cutting much better than my old craftsman and it seems to cut wider than my old one even though they both have a 42inch cutting surface

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful machine Great machine and cuts beautifully. This one replaces a craftsman I’ve had for 20 years. I just wish it would come with a cover over the deck opening. The mower throws the cut grass around 20-30 ft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's been a great summer here in Wisconsin using my new Cub Cadet to keep up our yard after having shoulder surgery in April. The mower was great to use with no problems. We even bought a trailer to help with other chores. Now this week we purchased the bagger unit for this tractor. The machine has lived up to it's name. We enjoy being in "Strongsville"!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great turning radius I am generally satisfied with this tractor. it handles well. The cover for the mulch blades is not good because the edges keeps loading up with grass. it needs to be re-designed to cover without gaps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new Cub Cadet This mower exceeded my expectations from the get go!!!! More power than I expected. Very, very easy to keep the deck clean of grass - both on top of the deck and underneath. Love it!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far So Good Purchased the X1 about a month ago. Surprised at the power of the mower and how smoothly it mows and turns. Seat fits me great, love the monitor to let me know when things need to be done. Only concern is that I think my battery is reading low allready, but will contact dealer and see if that can be rectified as I have not had the mower for that long and do not think battery should be reading low allready. Overall very satisfied, makes mowing a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! The entire process in purchasing my “First Cubcadet“ has been rewarding! The Associates and Home Depot as whole made it a great caring experience. By the way, my “Cubbie” is the best! I am very pleased with the performance and easy handling of an fantastic mower. Plenty to say; however, I have grass begging for a professional cut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like it should I have about an acre yard, most of it uneaven and lots of trees. Mower cuts evenly, no scalping, and maneuverability is excellent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turning radius Love the turning radius. I had a Husqvarna, John deere, and a Murray. This beats them all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Motor [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the 50" Fabricated deck from my equipment dealer in April of 2019. It has spent more time at the dealer for warranty repairs than at my house over the first 5 months! Most of the problems seem to be with the EFI Cub branded engine. The programming has causes surging engine speeds and it does not charge the battery. I have mowed my lawn 3 times and have had to replace blades, battery and stator that has been back ordered for months. In comparison, I used a 2006 model that only required regular maintenance for the previous 13 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Has some flaws [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a month ago. One issue is the design of the gas filler tube and cap design allows spillage of gas onto your foot even if you are below the fill line. One of the reasons is there are no O rings in the gas cap. My other issue is seems to be cutting uneven I am going to sharpen the blades that may fix that issue. I have a small mowing service and reviews stated this would be a good fit for me. Considering getting new belts and blades for my old deck and finishing season with my old lawn tractor. I had expected to shorten my time mowing due to a new machine. It did not happen. My guess is I got a machine that was built on a Friday.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice mower! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve owned this mower for almost 3 years now and it’s been a pleasure. I actually sold a 3 yo John Deere to buy this one for 2 main reasons. First, the John Deere sits higher than nearly any other model. If you have inclines on your property (ditch banks, etc.) then the center of gravity makes it feel less stable and more prone to tipping over. You don’t get that feeling with this Cub Cadet. Secondly, the fuel injection was the other main reason. No more carburetors to deal with. Starting is as easy as your car plus it’s more fuel efficient. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review is the bagger on mine has to be bungee strapped down to keep it from coming open. A minor nuisance for such a great mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features for the money Engine timer, great seat, gas cap placement is the best, are some of the things that separate this from the competition. Reviews not only on line but by other customers in the store and the store workers that see the other models that come in for repair a lot (ie john Deere).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 5 lb. oil pressure Kohler This is my third year for my XT1. Put three different oil pressure gauges on it since new just to make sure I was getting correct readings(using SUMMIT AUTO gauge now)- when first started it runs about 20 lbs oil pressure and after running about 15-30 mins it runs about 3-5 lbs oil pressure. Seems this is a VERY common problem in these Kohler Courage engines. Wish I would have known before purchase or I would have went with other reputable brand! Live n learn I guess. Wonder how long it will last- I think I will replace with the 22hp from Harb0r Fr3ight!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from cutting [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My mother and father had bought this mower in 2018 and I am the one using it. This machine has not cut right since the day they got it. I find that certain grasses will not cut, and yes the blades were sharp at the time of cutting. It was brand new. . It also does not seem to pick up the grass when run over very good. The suction does not seem to be that great. I have cleaned the deck off numerous times and still does no better. The mower its self seems to be fine. Maybe a little underpowered. Sorry I couldn't be a little more positive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality mower with only minor issues [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought about a year ago, and only had a few minor issues. The fuse in ignition switch broke and was shorting, causing the mower to spontaneously shut down, as if keyed off. Replaced fuse...no more problem. Then starter relay went bad, causing the starter to continuously spin, even after mower started. We would have to disconnected battery to stop. Warranty call, repair...no more problem. Otherwise, great mower, smooth cuts, and fast. Such a joy, I had to race my 78 year old dad to cutting the grass, because we both enjoyed it so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The easiness to start and its turning radias I've bought the Cub Cadet-XT1LT42 just over a month ago and I just love it. I've never owned a Hydrostatic rider before. I'm still learning it but am so Happy I purchased one and it being this Cub Cadet. Sorry I don't have any Photos.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not built like the lt1042 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought 2019 lt42 it took the place of my 2005 lt1042 which I gave to my son it is still in very good working condition . The old tractor is a much better tractor then the new one.The new 5400 series engine is very noisey compared to old courage Kohler. Most important is does not cut has good as the old one also there other things.I paid the same price 14 yrs ago as i did for the 2019 . You can tell where they cut cost to keep it the same price . The old cub was so good I bought the same one in 2019. Too bad I went backwards

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it indeed! I have used this mower weekly since purchasing it about two months ago. It has been wonderful in comfort, ease of use, cutting ability, etc. Hope it continues out the way it has started.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mulching kit poorly designed I purchased my XL42 from Home Depot with the bagger and mulching kit. The plastic shroud with the milching kit has broken and the machine doesn't mulch. I was forced to improvise the deisgn as a way to use the mulch kit by using a strap-band to hold the cheap plastic shroud in place. Until Cub Cadet improves the design of the mulch kit, save your money and just allow the clippings to discharge to the right and plan your cut accordingly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rider Ever!! Started looking for a new lawn mower in December of 2014 after my 11 year old craftsman's engine died. I have done a lot of research and read many reviews of different brands available. i went to the JD dealer and test drove the new s240 and the Cud dealer and drove a xt2 which has a better ride than the JD had. That is when i decided to get the Cub Cadet. Either the 42" 18HP or the 46" 22HP. I went with the 42" 18HP and i am glad it did. Has way more power than my old mower and cuts through my thick grass like butter. The lawn has never looked this good. I have 8 Hrs on this now and it has started right up every time, the ride and turning radious are amazing. The seat is awesome, have not had an issue with my back like i did before. Thanks Cub Cadet for making a great product!! The bonus is the warranty that you get with this mower.. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new riding lawn mower!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bulletproof I've had mine for over a year and have 30+ hours on it. I let it sit with the battery in it all winter and it still starts right up in freezing temps after sitting for over a month each time. It cuts well, runs great and is easy to service yourself. I lube the axles and do my own tune ups and oil changes. It's finally ready to have the blades sharpened. I couldn't be happier.
